Find your way into the local comedy scene….

“Hey rusty good to see ya bud! U provly don’t remember me but I went to high school with you. Great to see your doin great with comedy! That fight at the skate park was awesome. Hey man im trying to find my way onto the local comedy scene. How do I go about it open mic night? Grab a show? Wondered if you could give me some knowledge. Thanks bro hope to hear from you soon”

                                                                                            -Wes

What’s up Wes??  I do remember you man.  That fight at the skate park was pretty sweet.  I actually recommend fighting at skate parks before trying standup.  It’s a lot less dangerous….but seriously…There’s an open-mic every Monday at 7:00pm at Evolution Nightclub (6132 4th Street NW).  That show’s put on by Todd Badolato.  I also run the 3rd Thursdays Comedy Contest every month at Terrene Hookah Lounge (Vassar and Central) and I try to keep a few spots open for newer comics on the scene.

Most open mics as well as my contest our 5-minute slots.  I recommend getting together your best few jokes, and shoot for around 4 minutes or so when you’re rehearsing.  The set’s almost always a little longer in front of an audience, and if you have a lot more than 5 minutes of material you want to do, don’t worry, you’ll get your chance, but start off with your best 5.

Check out the “Albuquerque’s Stand-Up Fans” page on facebook for updated posts of all the shows going on around town, and make sure to peep AlbuquerCrack Up on Tumblr for a behind the scenes look at our local laughter scene.

Hope that helps man.  We have a fun crew of comics here in the ‘Burq and we’re always excited to welcome more peeps into our circle.

Catch ya soon!

~Rusty
